The State Lottery Agency began operation in 1973 after the adoption of a constitutional amendment by referendum in November 1972 (Chapter 365, Acts of 1972). The agency conducts statewide lotteries to generate revenue for the support of state government, and all revenues collected are deposited with the general funds of the state treasury. Lotteries include instant, daily, lotto, and lotto subscription games. Lottery tickets are sold and cashed in at sales outlets located in licensed retail establishments. The director of the agency is appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the senate, and deputy directors are appointed by the director. The State Lottery Agency is advised by the State Lottery Commission.
