QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY
(Chancery Case Files)
Documentation of chancery cases heard in the Circuit Court of Queen Anne's County between 1817 and 1978. These papers continue from 1978 in Series C3041, but are referred to as equity papers. There is no significant difference between chancery and equity papers; both names refer to cases concerning financial matters not covered in criminal or civil cases. Many chancery cases throughout Maryland were handled by the State's Chancery Court before it ceased functioning in 1851. More information about this court, with links to circumstances in which the records have been used for research, can be found on the agency history page of the Chancery Court
. The paper index to these records was used to create sub-units for this series, and all information from it can be found in the Guide to Government Records description for each case.
